La Escaleta, a red wine bearing the prestigious seal of the Denominación de Origen Calificada (DOQ) Priorat in Spain, is a tribute to the noble Cariñena grape. This wine, made exclusively from Cariñena, offers a sensory experience that captures the authenticity and richness of this variety in the Priorat region.

"It pays homage to an engraving of an eight-step staircase, with a cross in the middle. Carved by the Carthusian monks of Escaladei, it sits on the river bank, opposite the old Bardina mill."

Stemming from a single plot of Cariñena in the picturesque village of Torroja del Priorat, La Escaleta benefits from characteristic soils of brown and black slate, interspersed with clayey and alluvial sediments. The vines, around forty years old, are carefully cultivated using sustainable agricultural practices, leading the way to organic certification which is currently in process.

The winemaking of La Escaleta reflects a dedication to bringing out the pure essence of Cariñena. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in small 500-litre food-grade plastic tanks, with maceration lasting eight to fourteen days. The must is pressed to finish fermentation and then aged in 1,100-litre terracotta amphorae for fourteen months, allowing the wine to develop its complex layers of flavour.
