Whisky Shinobu Japanese Blended Mizunara OAK: The Shinobu Distillery is located in the beautiful prefecture of Niigata in Japan, a place locally acclaimed for its "three white treasures," namely snow, rice, and sake.
At the distillery resides a passionate whisky lover and experienced brewer, Mr. Ken Usami, who also founded the craft beer brewery called Niigata Beer 20 years ago in the same city. As an innovator at heart, Mr. Usami was the first brewer to apply bottle secondary fermentation and aging in Niigata beer.
Mr. Usami dreams of creating a local whisky distillery that can showcase the quality of local pure water and serve the passionate community of spirit enthusiasts. Finally, in 2017, Mr. Usami obtained the first whisky license for Niigata and thus began his journey to become a distiller.
While the distillery is still under construction, Mr. Usami wants to experiment with blending whiskies from around the world to create unique Japanese flavors. This is how the first expressions of Mizunara oak finish were born.
The whisky is characterized by its lightly toasted nuts, jelly pear, and honeysuckle, all of which appear on the nose of this Japanese whisky. Black pepper and cloves appear early on the palate, ripe citrus and roasted apples develop before a long and smooth finish.
