It is grown in temperate climates as it does not tolerate cold well. The peach season is summer, during June, July, and August; although some varieties appear as early as April and others extend until November. The most well-known varieties are:
- Queen Crest: one of the first of the season, with firm flesh and medium flavor. ElMaycrest also appears early in markets, with softer flesh and good quality.
- Tirrenia: one of the first of the season, semi-hard, good flavor, delicate conservation.
- Catherine (Yellow from Murcia): one of the first of the season although not as much as the previous ones, good size, good flavor.
- Merryl and Elegant Lady: mid-season, good size and quality, very sweet and good conservation. The Franciscan Merryl: juicy, sweet and good size.
- Bay - Gold: longer season, firm flesh, good flavor and juicy. Quite perishable.
- Royal glory: late ripening, consistent and juicy flesh, good flavor and sweet.
- Calanda (Teruel): late, with Designation of Origin. The authentic one is the San Miguel variety, very thick, juicy flesh and unique flavor, it has great quality.
- Nectarines: they are a hybrid between peach and plum, with yellow and white flesh, the former more acidic and the latter sweeter.
It has a high content of water, carbohydrates, vitamins A, C, B1, B2, B6, minerals like potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, sulfur, chlorine, manganese, copper, and iron; and betacarotene, antioxidant, and citric acid. Therefore, they are beneficial for the nervous system, regulate intestinal transit, prevent cardiovascular and degenerative problems, strengthen the immune system, regulate blood sugar levels, prevent anemia, and reduce cholesterol.
