Almirez is a fruity wine with structure , pleasant tannins, balance and intense memories. Its previous vintages have obtained consecutive high scores , making it one of the most regular wines from Toro. Guaranteed success.
It all started during a vineyard search for another family project in Vinos de la Tierra , where they met and fell in love with the old pre-phylloxera vines of Toro and their ability to produce unique wines.
The success in the preparation of these wines was marked in several stages. At first, the Eguren brothers took over the Numanthia Termes winery where they produced the Termanthia wine with which they obtained 100 Parker points. In 2008 they sold this winery to Louis Vuitton Möet Hennessy (LVMH) to start a solo path and look for new vineyards with very specific characteristics, also in Toresano.
These vineyards also have more gravel on the surface, face north and have longer vegetative cycles. All this with the aim of obtaining wines that convey balance and elegance , extracting the maximum potential of the land.
The construction of the Teso La Monja winery began, however, before the sale of Numanthia Termes to LVMH. It was in 2006 , on a few hectares of ascribed vineyards. There stands a winery of sober architectural beauty whose design perfectly combines the most modern vision in the production of great wines with the experience, history and know-how of the past.
Modernity on solid foundations. It is in this context that the Románico, Almirez, Victorino, Alabaster and Teso La Monja wines are produced. Wines that transmit the essences of Tinta de Toro with subtlety and freshness, two characteristic attributes of all Eguren wines.
In Toro you can find pre-phylloxera vineyards of very advanced age, which does not happen in other Spanish D.O., such as La Rioja, where that plague devastated all the vines. Thus, Teso la Monja has 90 hectares of planted vineyards, mostly in direct and autochthonous foot, located in the towns of Valdefinjas, Toro and Villabuena del Puente. These vines range in age from 35 to 130 years old, which are used for the production of Alabaster.
Teso la Monja also practices sustainable agriculture , with organic fertilization and delicate work in the winery. Traditional methods are combined with the most modern technology to extract the mineral nuances of the privileged soils.
