Bodega Alvear was built in 1729 in the town of Montilla, by Diego de Alvear y Escalera.
He was the son of Juan Bautista García de Alvear y Garnica, born in Nájera and transferred to Córdoba as Administrator of the Royal Revenues.
Diego moved to Montilla where he saw his fondness for the countryside born.
