TÍA MARÍA LIQUEUR
Tía María is a liqueur originating from Jamaica. The combination of Jamaican cane spirit, Blue Mountain coffee, Bourbon vanilla, and sugar makes Tía María a complex and balanced liqueur. In Jamaica, cane-based liqueurs are a typical specialty.
The history of this liqueur dates back to the beginning of the 17th century. Legend has it that a young noblewoman with a residence in Jamaica was forced to escape her property due to a conflict. This aristocrat was accompanied by a maid, carrying a family jewelry box containing black pearls and a liqueur recipe. In honor of this servant, the liqueur was named after her.
Beyond the myth, it is believed that the drink was created by Dr. Kenneth Leigh Evas in Jamaica in 1950, and in the 1980s, it became very popular thanks to international advertising campaigns featuring the model Iman.
It is perfect to enjoy on its own, with coffee, or can be used to create a variety of cocktails such as the Tía María Frappé or the classic Espresso Martini.
