Creatine is mainly stored in skeletal muscle in the form of phosphate (PCr or phosphocreatine) and provides an immediate source of energy (ATP). Nowadays, creatine is used as a dietary supplement to reduce muscle fatigue, particularly in anaerobic sports, that is, high-intensity and repetitive exercises with minimal rest periods. It has also been shown to be effective in the treatment of sarcopenia (loss of muscle mass due to aging). Finally, vitamin C acts as an antioxidant against free radicals formed during exercise.
