The Enrique Mendoza Las Quebradas Red Wine from Bodegas Enrique Mendoza presents this red wine from the Alicante Designation of Origin (D.O.), made from 100% Monastrell grapes.
It is produced from a single vineyard located in the "Las Quebradas" area in Villena, situated 500 meters above sea level and with unique "edaphological" (soil) characteristics.
It is aged for 15 months in French oak barrels.
The vineyard grows on bedrock and the soils are stony "caliche stone" and poor in organic matter. It is a traditional vineyard with 1500 plants per hectare trained in a goblet shape without any irrigation support. Fertilization is done with organic sheep compost.
It is a viticulture system in which we work with the concept of zero residue, which means that it has never received herbicides or systemic treatments and, of course, no insecticides. We only work with powdered sulfur, copper, biological control for the moth, and a lot of awareness.
In the province of Alicante, the influence of the Mediterranean Sea is very characteristic, with sea breezes circulating through the mountain corridors that have created the Carrascal de la Font Roja Natural Park and the Sierra del Maigmó Protected Landscape, providing greater freshness to the foliage.
In the province, there are two areas with very different climates and soils: the Mediterranean coast, where sea breezes have a great influence on vineyards in coastal municipalities, and another inland area in the Alto Vinalopó region, with altitudes of over 600 meters above sea level. Here, sea breezes also have a significant influence through natural mountain corridors. In this area of the Alicante plateau, we find mature vineyards on soils with a high presence of limestone pebbles, crust, stones, and sands.
