As the mountain range emerged and the seas became locked in, the water evaporated, and over the centuries different strata of sediments settled on top. Himalayan salt, in addition to sodium chloride, contains other minerals such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, sulfur oxide, manganese, fluorine, iodine, zinc, chromium, copper and cobalt. Hence its characteristic pink color
