La Cueva del Contador is a red wine made from 100% Tempranillo grapes by the Contador winery in the D.O. Rioja.
La Cueva del Contador , whose name refers to the place and the method used in the past by the winemakers who transported the wine in goat skins and counted it at the foot of the draft where it was stored and sold, is the second wine of the winery.
Bodega Contador began in 1995, when the oenologist and winegrower Benjamín Romeo acquired a century-old cave under the castle of San Vicente de la Sonsierra (La Rioja). In 1996 he produced the first vintage of his wine "La Cueva del Contador" there and began to buy vines for his winemaking project.
It has a bright and intense red-purple colour.
The nose is deep and voluminous. Red and black fruit compote with spicy, mineral and balsamic touches, as well as toasted notes. The wood is present, fine and yet to be integrated. Good evolution.
On the palate it is powerful and well balanced in terms of maturity and freshness. It has a very long and fresh finish. Elegant and fine.
