Learn about the Campestral winery
Considered the largest ancestral wine cellar in Spain, Campestral focuses on the production of natural wines, without any additives, intervention, or manipulation. Therefore, the grape is the only ingredient in the wines produced by this winery, a personal project of Andrés Troya located in an idyllic setting in Arcos de la Frontera, Cádiz.
A natural wine is not the same as an organic wine. The difference is significant because while an organic wine may have some additives, a natural one cannot use absolutely anything. Only grape. This allows for the true aroma and flavor of the wine to be obtained, with all the essence of the fruit from which it comes. Campestral's portfolio includes still natural wines (red, white, and clarets), both young and aged under a flor veil and barrel aging. But they also produce sparkling wines using the ancestral method, which is the first method discovered for making sparkling wines.
Campestral wines have impressed, among others, guru Jancis Robinson, Master of Wine, weekly wine columnist for the Financial Times, wine advisor for Queen Elizabeth's winery, and respected international critic in her own guide. Robinson has rated all the wines above 16 points out of 20, highlighting the palomino under a flor veil with 17.5 points.
The Campestral project was created from scratch on an old farm with various purposes between Arcos de la Frontera and Algar. In a privileged location on a gentle hill with 250 meters of altitude and views of the white town of Arcos de la Frontera, the Guadalcacín reservoir, and the Sierra de Grazalema, Finca El Encanto was created. The estate covers 8 hectares, mostly occupied by a vineyard cultivated with organic farming methods where the varieties tintilla de Rota, petit verdot, syrah, merlot, and cabernet Sauvignon are grown.
