Riet Vell buys this wheat from farmers selected by the location of their plots, under the supervision of SEO/BirdLifeand trying to offer better economic conditions. These are very low yielding areas in kilos per hectare but ideal for very good quality durum wheat for processing into pasta.


The steppe areas of Belchite and Los Monegros are characterised by the existence of a mosaic of crops, fallow land and woody pastures that form a suitable habitat for very scarce and endangered species such as the Iberian Sandgrouse, the Black-bellied Sandgrouse, the Stone-curlew and the Eurasian Skylark
