Tasting notes:
Beginning of 2020 stands out for a fresh, fruity, and balanced nose. In the mouth, however, it shows a meaty character thanks to the good structure of mature tannins and always gentle for its optimal acidity. Wild red fruit flavors are also perceived, with hints of raspberry and currant, along with certain aniseed notes. The aftertaste is long and elegant. In the glass, it shows the bright shades of ripe black cherry and pale golden iridescence.
Serving temperature: 16º C
Geology and Soil:
From llicorell; rocky and very poor in organic matter, so the vines have little vigor and offer low yields. The bedrock is laminated, forcing the vine to develop roots up to 15 meters deep. Both factors contribute to creating an ideal environment to withstand summer stress and achieve a progressive and perfect grape ripening.
Harvest:
The 2020 vintage was characterized by a fairly rainy spring and a dry and warm summer and autumn. The production of Grenache was irregular due to pollination difficulties. The hailstorm in June did not have significant effects. The harvest was very healthy and stood out for its quality.
Pairing:
At Made in Spain Gourmet, we recommend pairing it with partridge with truffle or mushrooms, duck breast with grape and sweet potato sauce, dishes cooked with free-range eggs, or a selection of artisan cheeses. Its quality allows you to enjoy it with whatever you want.
Production:
Manual harvest collected in 20 kg boxes. 100% of the harvest is destemmed. Fermentation / maceration at controlled temperature and carried out in stainless steel tanks. After three weeks, a gentle pressing is done through a pneumatic horizontal press. Once pressed, the wine is transferred to French oak barrels of 225 l, where malolactic fermentation takes place. The wine ages in oak barrels for 8 to 12 months before blending and bottling. The 2018 vintage is neither filtered nor clarified, and each bottle evolves for several months in the winery before being released to the market.
2020 Vintage: excellent
At Mervm Priorati, they work hard and strive every day to ensure the quality standards of their wines. They accept extreme weather conditions and endure the adversities of heroic viticulture that mark the character of the land. They work exclusively with grapes from their own estates: origin is the only way to guarantee wines of the highest quality. The result is a very limited production marked by the terroir.
The 2020 vintage was rated as Excellent for its quality and the health status of the grapes. However, the abundant rainfall in the vineyard and excess humidity combined with excessively warm temperatures provided the perfect environment for the development of one of the most devastating fungal diseases: mildew. At Mervm Priorati, it affected during flowering and, as a result, a significant portion of the vines did not bear fruit. The grape harvest in 2020 was very good but also very scarce.
This vintage will be prestigious for Mervm Priorati wines.
The region boasts the coveted DOCa...
Currently, the region boasts the coveted "Denominación de Origen Calificada," a designation shared in Spain only with Rioja.
The Priorat Denomination of Origin Calificada is a small mountainous region located in the province of Tarragona. The Montsant mountain range delimits it to the north, the La Figuera mountain range to the west, the Molló mountain range to the east, and the territory opens to the south following the course of the Siurana river downstream towards the Ebro. The Siurana river and its tributaries are the main geographic artery of the area, creating a series of valleys and small plains thanks to the geological sinuosity of the mountains and mountain slopes. According to the Catalonia legislation regarding regional administrative division, the Priorat DOCa territory falls within a larger administrative delimit
