The Vino Tinto Mayor de Ondarre from Grupo Bodegas Olarra presents this Red Wine from D.O.Ca Rioja (Spain) made with the varieties of Mazuelo, Tempranillo, and others.
Aging
This Vino Tinto Mayor de Ondarre has been aged for 19 months in barrels (80% French and 20% American). In order to preserve its maximum concentration, this red wine underwent spontaneous clarification with successive rackings. After bottling, this red wine remains in the bottle for at least 17 months.
Elaboration
This Red Wine is made with the following grape varieties: 90% Tempranillo, 5% Mazuelo from low-yielding vineyards, and 5% unknown varieties found in old vineyards. Traditional vinification is carried out, with a maceration period of three weeks and fermentation between temperatures of 20ºC and 26ºC; with respective daily pump-overs and delestage.
Subsequently, malolactic fermentation takes place in new oak barrels from Missouri and central France, followed by aging on lees and racking.
Bodega Ondarre
Bodega Ondarre seeks to produce wines that express the terroir, wines with a clear mark of the municipality of Viana. This typicity or personality is defined by the diversity of soils and the distribution of small, old vineyards located on the slopes ascending towards the Sierra.
Viana is an area with a rich winemaking tradition passed down from generation to generation. According to records, there is cartographic evidence showing that many of the vineyards of Bodega Ondarre with the varieties of Mazuelo and Tempranillo have been planted for over 70 years, which brings great uniqueness and personality to the wines.
These vineyards have low yields, where the grapes are meticulously cared for and selected, as this is the only way to achieve wines that reflect and express the terroir through climate, soil, and the work of man.
