75cl Bottle

This single varietal Garnacha comes from Poboleda, one of the first viticultural areas of Priorat. The Mas Vell vineyard is characterized by its south orientation and the great sun exposure that this entails. From its rocky soils and radiant sun emerge round, expressive, and fruity wines.

The first grape selection is done in the field, leaving any unsuitable fruit in the vineyard. The grapes are then hand sorted. All batches are kept cold for 2-3 days before starting a slow fermentation in barrels and stainless steel tanks. Gentle movements are applied several times a day in the 600L tanks and barrels. Macerations last a long period, over 30 days to achieve optimal intensity and tannin extraction. The wine is gravity-fed and the skins and stems are pressed very gently. The wine returns to the original maceration barrels for aging. New and 1-year-old French oak barrels are used for 18 months to house the wine before bottling, without clarification or filtration. This wine is rare and unique, mature and of singular expression, an authentic Garnacha from Priorat.

PERINET VINEYARDS

The Perinet vineyards encompass three great visions of historical Priorat. The project as a whole allows the Perinet vines to shape a new balance of styles in winemaking. Specifically, the three climates of the vineyard correspond to three styles of wine: warm and ripe: Mas Vell, fresh and long: Mas del Xes, and Mediterranean and aromatic: Pendents, in the municipality of Porrera.

The three plots show a strong personality where various local and international varieties grow on steep slopes and terraces of different exposure and orientation. This conveys the authenticity of the landscape in different wines from the estate, always linked to the climate and slate soil of Priorat.

Winemaking: The Mas Vell vineyard is completely south-facing, capturing the maximum potential fruit ripeness. Its altitude distinguishes it from neighboring vineyards. Most plantations are around 200-250 meters, while Mas Vell is located at 385-450 meters. This additional elevation allows for open exposure of the green cover and the influence of cool winds that help retain acidity and vigor. From its rocky soils and radiant sun emerge round, expressive, and fruity wines. The extreme weather conditions of 2017 have resulted in a harvest that expresses the classic terroir of Priorat without impurities.

It has a fermentation of 60% in barrels, 40% in stainless steel, and an aging of 18 months in 80% new 600l French oak.

Pairing: at Made in Spain Gourmet we recommend it with meats, aged goat and sheep cheeses, cured meats, Iberian ham, and Foie gras.

The region boasts the coveted DOCa..

Currently, the region boasts the coveted "Denominación de Origen Calificada" designation shared in Spain only with Rioja.

The Denominación de Origen Calificada Priorat is a small mountainous region located in the province of Tarragona. The Montsant mountain range delimits it to the north, to the west is the La Figuera mountain range, to the east is the Molló mountain range, and to the south the territory opens following the course of the Siurana River downstream towards the Ebro. The Siurana River and its tributaries are the main geographical artery of the area, causing a series of valleys and small plains thanks to the geological sinuosity of the mountains and mountain slopes. According to Catalonia's legislation regarding regional administrative division, the territory of the DOCa Priorat falls within a larger administrative demarcation known as the "Comarca del Priorat", which also has a part of the territory that is not part of the wine-growing Priorat.

The Denominación de Origen Calificada Priorat has an area of 17,629 hectares, of which 2,163.97 are planted with vines and cultivated by 513 viticulturists. Administratively, 9 municipalities are part of the DOCa Priorat: Bellmunt del Priorat, Gratallops, El Lloar, El Molar, La Morera de Montsant (which includes the village of Scala Dei in its term), Poboleda, Porrera, Torroja del Priorat, La Vilella Alta, and La Vilella Baixa. Additionally, on the boundaries of the DOQ Priorat, there is also the northern part of the municipality of Falset (the Masos de Falset area) and the eastern part of the municipality of El Molar (Les Solanes del Molar).
