More information
Natural shelled walnuts, walnut quarters. Product certified as ecologically sourced from regenerative organic agriculture, grown in the highlands of southeastern Spain. They come from a soil and landscape restoration project that begins in Chirivel (Almería) and extends through the Almería highlands (Almanzora and Los Vélez), Granada (Altiplano, Baza region, and Guadix region), and northwest Murcia.
These walnuts are the result of a reforestation project carried out in 2005 in the area that includes Los Vélez and northwest Murcia.
Organic cultivation does not add products that may be harmful to health. Regenerative techniques help the ecosystem in these highlands with extreme temperatures between winter and summer, prone to desertification, to generate an ecosystem and restore the soil and landscape. In this way, not only nutrients are extracted from the soil, but also added, capturing more CO2 and positively contributing to the natural environment than a solely organic crop.
Practices carried out include, among others:
- Ground cover with native plants from the specific terrain that are later added to the soil or used as food for extensive livestock that eats and deposits on the soil, adding their contribution to the soil.
- Creation of semi-natural ponds and infiltration ditches for rainwater, so that rains do not wash away the fertile soil and water can remain to naturally irrigate the crops.
- Planting of hedges and aromatic plants to create an ecosystem and attract pollinators.
- Placement of beehive panels.
- And more.
