Allspice, also known as tabasco pepper, comes from a tropical tree (Pimenta dicoica). It is a berry of a larger size than the common pepper and inside it harbors bean-shaped seeds.
Allspice is a spice of incredible flavor and aroma, totally different from pepper; it has hints of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg; and is slightly spicy.
Lacking the spicy flavor of traditional pepper, allspice is one of the most characteristic ingredients of Caribbean cuisine; it is used ground in making Mexican mole sauces and curry powders. It makes very good soups
