During the Spanish occupation of Flanders by the Duke of Alba the Augustinians founded several monasteries in the occupied areas. These monks also brewed their own beer, and the owner of the Van Steenberge brewery, Joseph Van Steenberge, got the license and the recipes to brew the Augustijn beers. There are photos from the early 1960s in which some Augustinian monks visit the brewery, checking the empty bottles, the brewing process and the beer itself.

[BOTTLE 33 CL]
Augustijn Blonde Abbey Beer, 7% alcohol, top fermented and with secondary fermentation in the bottle.
Augustijn Blond, amber-blonde in colour and slightly cloudy
The Augustijn Blond, amber-blonde and slightly cloudy in colour, presents itself with a lot of strength, due to the high CO2 saturation and is crowned by an abundant layer of persistent foam
The first touch is fine and is complemented by a fullness of aromas of pale malts and yeast, giving entry to a robust and balanced flavor, with a slight bitterness, which ends dry but fruity.
The Augustijn Blond is an aperitif beer that goes very well with fine seafood and fish dishes, fresh oysters and tuna salads. It also goes well with fresh grilled tuna and soft, creamy cheeses
