Country: Peru Region: Chirinos, San Ignacio Farm: El Corazón Altitude: 1700m – 1900m Variety: Typica and Catuai Process: Washed Producer: Small producers from Chirinos Harvest: 2023

Coffee with medium body and notes of candied orange and 70% dark chocolate, with a hint of vanilla aftertaste, medium acidity and high sweetness reminiscent of Nutella.

Chirinos is a district in the province of San Ignacio and is one of the most well-known areas for its quality coffee in Peru. Chirinos is well connected to nearby cities, with new roads and a thriving town that serves as a hub for coffee buying and trading.
Although the coffee landscape in Chirinos is still dominated by intermediaries and FTO certifications, there is a growing interest in specialty coffee, and some of the largest cooperatives in the area have been promoting quality for several years. However, non-cooperative producers, who are many, still have limited access to the market and little support to invest in their farms and improve quality.
In Chirinos, there are several villages with ideal conditions for coffee cultivation, with altitudes above 1700 meters above sea level, and many producers still have old varieties of pure Arabica. We see huge potential for quality improvement in Chirinos; with small changes and investments, producers can escape the low market prices, which rarely cover production costs, and find a market for their coffee that pays well above market prices with quality incentives.
