Macán Clásico is a wine that is rooted in the territory of the Rioja Sonserrana. Coming from the slopes of the Cantabrian mountain range, this region accumulates centuries of tradition, knowledge and winemaking culture.
Since 2004, an intense work of selection, acquisition and care of 100 hectares of vineyards has been carried out, followed by an admirable work in the winery since 2009, when it was marketed for the first time. As of 2016, the joint project between Tempos Vega Sicilia and Compañía Vinícola Barón Edmond de Rothschild in the DOCa Rioja has given rise to its own modern facilities that combine innovation, technology and knowledge.
Macán Clásico is a single varietal wine, made exclusively from Tempranillo grapes. The grapes come from plots with limestone soils and a sandy-clay profile. In this vintage, which was characterised by warmer weather throughout the vine cycle, great concentration and power were expected. However, the 80 litres of rain that fell in September radically transformed the texture of the skins from dry to firm but noble. This vintage allowed for gentle extractions, almost infusions, and nature delivered its full potential. In terms of ageing, the impact of American oak was reduced and the toasted notes were favoured to bring freshness.
Macán Clásico expresses the freshness, fruitiness, vivacity and finesse of the terroir, providing depth and complexity.
Macán Clásico offers a more concentrated and powerful expression, but at the same time retains that lively and fresh touch characteristic of our soils.
