The Marqués de Riscal Gran Reserva Magnum Red Wine from Bodegas Marqués de Riscal presents this red wine from the Rioja D.O.Ca., made from 100% Tempranillo grape varieties.
It is a timeless wine that represents almost two centuries of winemaking art. It possesses the traditional style of Rioja Alavesa taking us back to the aspirations of the winery's founders in the 19th century.
In the production of the Gran Reserva, Marqués de Riscal uses grapes from old vines over 80 years old, from their own productions or acquired from local fixed viticulturists. Once the wine is selected, after the blending of the harvest, it is aged in French oak barrels for between two and a half to three years (32 months), and then spends another three years in the bottle before being released on the market.
Optimal serving temperature: Between 16 and 18ºC.
The history of Bodegas Marqués de Riscal is the story of an innovative, pioneering company and a reference in a continuously transforming wine sector.
The winery was founded in 1858 by Guillermo Hurtado de Amézaga. In 1862, their first wines were bottled, making them the oldest bottled wines in Rioja.
A few years after its foundation, the winery began to rapidly win numerous awards, but one of the most important came in 1895, when Marqués de Riscal became the first non-French wine to receive the Diploma of Honor at the Bordeaux Exhibition.
In 1972, Marqués de Riscal started producing the first white wines from Rueda, and in recent years, the winery has ventured into the incorporation of two new denominations in the project, V.T. Castilla y León and D.O. Getariako Txakolina.
For those who want to explore the history of the winery from its foundation to the present day while enjoying Marqués de Riscal wines, The City of Wine was inaugurated in 2006, which now features a hotel designed by the famous Canadian architect Frank O. Gehry.
