Want to know more?

Vins El Cep is born from the union of four families of winegrowers and four estates. Since 1980, they have been producing unique high-quality wines and cavas that express the characteristics of their terroirs. Located in els Costers de l’Anoia, in Can Llopart de les Alzines, they are pioneers in organic and biodynamic viticulture.

They strive to achieve the perfect balance between respect for nature and high quality in the winery. The vineyards are their heritage, the roots their landscape.

Technical Sheet

Winery: Own Vineyards, in Sant Sadurní de Noia (Barcelona), hand-harvested. D.O. Penedés Alcohol content: 12% Variety: 85% Pinot Noir and 15% Chardonnay

Tasting notes: Pale yellow color with golden reflections. Fine and persistent bubbles with slow evolution. Aromas combining citrus, soft toasty notes, and brioche. An elegant cava with great minerality that is dense and expansive on the palate. Saline notes. Balanced and elegant, with a long finish.

Serving temperature: 6-8ºC

Production: A very warm autumn extended the vine's energy reserves period. The rains increased the soil's water capacity. The winter was dry and very warm, leading to an early vine budbreak. The spring was warm and dry, resulting in a reduced yield. Punctual rains in July and early August helped with grape ripening. They had a low-yield harvest of good quality with high acidity for their wines. They started harvesting on August 14 with the Pinot Noir and finished on October 2 with the Cabernet Sauvignon. Manual harvesting. Cooling of the grapes. Gravity-fed entry. Low-pressure pressing with a 30% extraction of free-run juice. Fermentation in small tanks at controlled temperatures. Only 5000 liters of this wine are produced. Aging for more than 48 months.

Pairing: seafood, fish, foie gras.

At Made in Spain Gourmet, we believe it pairs excellently with Mediterranean rice dishes such as those from Dehesa de la Albufera (seafood paellas, soupy rice dishes) and fresh pasta with sautéed vegetables or porcini mushroom sauces.

Vins el Cep is a sustainable, responsible, and efficient winery.

They work every day to fulfill their commitment to the landscape. They work sustainably using renewable energies, respecting the environment in the vineyard and in the winery.

They strive to improve water management, waste reduction, and energy efficiency, and invest in operating with photovoltaic energy.

Their Journey

The Carreras, Esteve, Masana, and Parera families had centuries of experience, with a deep-rooted agricultural tradition and a tradition of winemaking in their rural estates. Thus, in 1980, they embarked on a joint project to produce wines and cavas that represent the identity of their terroirs.

Can Llopart de les Alzines, a property dating back to 1499 and surrounded by vineyards, was chosen as the location to build their winery.

The soul of their project was - and always will be - those four friends and neighbors who ended up becoming partners. Gil Masana, Josep Carreras, Pere Parera, and Josep Esteve, who, starting from their passion, knowledge, and love for the land, have managed to bring it to this point.

Biodynamic: Pioneers and Believers

Throughout their history, each generation has contributed their bit, their advancements, but also the wisdom to see and reflect. The experience gained from direct contact with the land led them, in 2000, to steer their agriculture towards organic farming.

Shortly after, with the desire to keep improving at all levels, they decided to take a step further and embrace biodynamic agriculture. Although this type of agriculture was quite unknown in our country at that time, the results spoke for themselves, and they decided to embrace it. And they will continue to do so.
