The Nekeas Red Wine is made 100% with Tempranillo and Merlot grapes belonging to the D.O. Navarra. In the making of this wine, the vines located on north-facing slopes of the Nekeas Valley were chosen to provide the appropriate fruitiness and freshness for this style of wine. The two varieties are made separately unless the climatic conditions of the harvest allow them to be prepared together; the maceration is done cold and lasts at least five consecutive days, followed by another ten days at fermentation temperature, which is never higher than 28º C. The must is extracted exclusively by bleeding. The Nekeas Red Wine comes from one of the largest wine-producing areas in Spain: the Nekeas Valley, which has an excellent location and climate with Cantabrian and Mediterranean influences; the soils are poor and provide small grapes with high concentration of aromas and sugars. Bodegas Nekea has its roots back to the 17th century, both in its name and in the owning family, with valuable ancient documents that narrate the "day-to-day" of the vineyard and wine. Today, this winery manages to combine the wisdom of tradition with today's technology, uniting history with modernity.
