Sardines from inshore fisheries off the north-west coast of the Iberian Peninsula and the Gulf of Biscay, caught with traditional gear without the use of nets trawl or bottom trawl, thus avoiding the fishing of non-commercial or protected species and sizes. Fishing in European waters avoids long transports of fish halfway around the world, helps to improve the CO2 balance and has a lower energy consumption.

The size of this sardine, 14-15 cm, corresponds to individuals that are more than a year old and therefore have already completed a reproductive cycle, thus ensuring the natural stocks necessary for the maintenance of future generations of the species
