The Wine Rita, means "the strong personality of old vines of White Grenache, the wisdom of an emotional landscape, and the admiration for the person who gives it its name". This is how the Vinyes Domenech winery describes this white wine, made 100% with White Grenache, one of the grape varieties in the area, in the Sierra de Llaberia, Priorat. Although it is from the Montsant Designation of Origin. Made in Spain Gourmet always offers the Best of Spanish gastronomy.
Vinyes Domènech produces a 100% white grenache wine in the Priorat (in the Sierra de Llaberia, Tarragona), obtained from three parcels with very different soils, which contribute to its complexity.
Technical sheet
Winery: Vinyes Domenech
Appellation: Montsant
Vintage: 2021
Variety: 100% Small grain White Grenache
Alcohol content: 14.0% vol.
Tasting notes:
It is a wine with a clean and bright yellow color. On the nose, it is a wine with great aromatic complexity, with notes of fruit and white flower, as well as other more citrusy notes of lime. It then gives way to balsamic notes, with spices like cardamom or ginger. In the mouth, it is equally fresh, with notes of aromatic herbs. A finish with fruity notes and mineral touches.
Serving temperature: 8ºC - 10ºC.
Viticulture: organic and certified by CCPAE and in Conversion.
Geology and soil: three parcels with different soils give complexity and authenticity to the Rita wine: stony calcareous, clay-limestone, and white panel.
Production: after manual harvesting, the grapes are cooled by about 2-4ºC. Once destemmed, the obtained must rests in French oak barrels, where this white wine macerates and ferments with wild yeasts. It is in these barrels where the wine rests with its lees for five months.
Pairing: at Made in Spain Gourmet, we recommend it especially with fish; but also with some white meats and wonderful semi-cured sheep and vegan cheeses like Veggie Karma, as well as the creamy cheese Alma de Calaveruela.
Rita Wine: a gentle Mediterranean breeze in Priorat
Vinyes Domènech is synonymous with the dignity of certified organic and biodynamic viticulture between the Sierra de Llaberia and Montalt, a protected natural area with decorum, surrounded by mountains and lush forests. Honest wines, sustainable practices, in a bioclimatic building with functional architecture, integrated into the environment that generates electricity with renewable energies. It is a sustainable and very green winery, which even takes advantage of rainwater, with a comprehensive concept to minimize the degradation of the landscape they revere.
The Domènech family, originally from Falset, has owned one of the oldest vineyards in Capçanes since 2002, at an altitude of 500 meters. With the magic of craftsmanship, they make unique wines with a spirit that transports you to the Mediterranean. An iconic 100% small grain white grenache, a highly desired variety for its freshness, its adaptation to the territory (it adapts well to poor soils and heat), and its very pronounced fruity expression.
Three parcels with very different soils give it this complexity. 0.3 hectares of slate, one of very stony clay-limestone, and half a hectare of white panel. Grape entry into the chamber until the temperature drops to 2-4 degrees. Bleeding and bleeding after a few hours to start alcoholic fermentation with wild yeasts and five months on lees.
It is a wine where you can literally feel the sea breeze. A wine with the strong personality of old vines and the admiration of the person who gives it its name, Joan Ignasi Domènech's wife.
Sustainable and authentic viticulture
Therefore, Domènech defines his philosophy as "honest, direct, and natural", because he "does not modify what the wisdom of the earth offers". And therein lies his success, in "swimming with the current and flowing with what the vine demands". A way of respecting the land and the environment that places
