It is a berry from the zucchini plant. Its shape is elongated and it is a dark green color. Its skin is shiny. Its appearance is very similar to that of a cucumber.
Varieties
The most recognized ones are the pepo (in two colors: dark zucchini type: samara or sofia. And light zucchini type: grisson or clarita), the ovifera (which provides small or medium fruits of variable shape and bitter taste) and the mini zucchini, which is an early harvested variety of zucchini.
Nutritional qualities
The zucchini is mainly composed of water, carbohydrates, and a low proportion of lipids and proteins. It contains fiber and stands out for its vitamin C and B1 content. As for minerals, it is rich in potassium, magnesium, and phosphorus.
It has emollient properties (softening) on the digestive system, which is why its consumption is recommended for delicate stomachs and to combat gastritis. Due to its high potassium content and low sodium, it is ideal to include in the diets of people with cardiovascular and renal pathologies, as well as in cases of individuals with high blood pressure.
