Evaluation: After the resounding success in Priorat, Álvaro Palacios decides to settle in Bierzo as an area with great potential. His way of understanding wine is the selection of tiny parcels of old vines on steep and rocky slate soils to produce different wines based on the characteristics of each vineyard, a system similar to the Burgundy classification method. Many years have passed since he started in 1999 and his winemaking technique has been refined, leaving behind the excessive use of heavily toasted barrels to extract the essence of the fruit and shape his wines into various fragrances.
One of them is Pétalos, his village wine, or village wine, as the Burgundians call it. A wine with a violet and dark tone that conditions what we are going to smell next: fragrance, fragrance, and fragrance with a perfect definition of carnations, violets, petals, and rockrose flower. As we vigorously swirl the glass, it gains complexity and we perceive graphite, forest humus, and minerals. A seductive and feminine wine that we can't stop smelling. The palate follows the same scheme, floral and fresh-textured blueberries, balsamic, and dressed in velvet. The tannins are barely perceived due to their superficial and non-existent texture.
If it were a Burgundy, it would be a Chambolle-Musigny!
Aging: Aged for 4 months in oak barrels.
Alcohol content: 14.0%.
Optimal serving temperature: Between 16ºC and 17ºC.
