It is grown in hot or tropical climates. Its season is the summer and different species are distinguished, cylindrical or round, and of different size and color, but basically they are divided into two types:

• Diploid or seeded: elongated and striped shape
• Triploid or seedless: light green with dark green stripes.

It has a high content of water and fiber and contains no calories or carbohydrates, so it is recommended in slimming diets. It is also rich in vitamins A and C, minerals such as potassium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, iron and sodium; folic acid, beta-carotene and antioxidants.
