The name of some of their beers alludes to the monasteries, where Pater 6 are the fathers, third step of the monasteries, their "sisters", the Prior 8 to the prior and the Abt 12 to the abbot, first step of the monasteries. It has been made according to the same recipe since 1946.
Prior 8
[BOTTLE 33 CL]
Abbey beer, 6.7% alcohol, top fermented, with secondary fermentation in the bottle
St. Bernardus Pater is a dark, chestnut-coloured beer, 6.7%, with roasted malt aromas and a full flavour: a blend of malt and sweet spring water, with a slightly fruity palate reminiscent of melon and banana
The Pater or "father" has become a real reference in the Poperinge area where ordering a "pater" is equal to ordering an abbey beer or a quality beer. The St. Bernardus brewery remains faithful to the Trappist tradition of secondary fermentation in the bottle, which ensures a strong beer. It is presented with an abundant layer of foam that crowns this delicacy, like cream to chocolate mousse! To lick your fingers ....
It goes perfectly with cured cheeses, red meat and baked goat. It also combines very well with chocolate desserts and Catalan cream
