The Bodega Lagar d´Amprius presents us with the Lagar d´Amprius Chardonnay White Wine from the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) Vino Bajo Aragón (Spain), made from the 100% Chardonnay grape varieties. This wine is a clear example of the dedication and care that the winery puts into each stage of its production.
The Lagar d’Amprius Chardonnay is a wine made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes. The vines are specially cared for to obtain a fruit of excellent quality. The extreme production limitation of 1.5 Kg per vine at most ensures that all the incipient potential of the vines is transmitted to this limited production. All vineyards are owned by the winery, allowing for total control over the cultivation and harvesting process.
The harvest is always done at night, aiming to pick the grapes at the lowest possible temperature. This procedure is crucial to avoid excessive oxidation and properly chill the grapes. Dry ice is used during the tractor journey to the winery to achieve this. Once in the winery, after destemming and gently pressing the grapes, a skin maceration is done at a low temperature of 8ºC for 6-8 hours.
The fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks for 10 days at a constant temperature between 14-16ºC. Once the alcoholic fermentation is complete, the wine remains on its lees for a minimum of 12 months, during which batonages are carried out weekly. Subsequently, the wine is clarified and filtered before bottling, where it rests and evolves in the bottle for at least another 12 months before being released to the market. This careful production allows the wine to show a very positive evolution in the bottle.
The region of Matarraña, in the province of Teruel, Aragón, is privileged for its microclimate. We have the best orientation of the vineyards and an altitude of 600 meters above sea level. These vineyards are protected by the Beceite mountains from the humid winds near the coast, 50 km away, but with a marked Mediterranean character. The clayey soil provides minerality and demands that the vineyard produce its best grapes.
The Lagar d´Amprius Chardonnay has been awarded various scores and medals reflecting its exceptional quality:
This wine is characterized by its freshness, elegance, and a great bottle aging potential. It presents intense aromas of tropical fruits, citrus, and floral notes, accompanied by a subtle minerality provided by the clayey soils of the region. On the palate, it is a balanced wine with good acidity and a long, persistent finish.
