Alonso del Yerro, made with tempranillo from different and very distinct plots, is an extraordinary wine. It is a fresh, concentrated, very tasty wine, with elegant tannins and great persistence on the palate.
The Alonso del Yerro family inaugurates the Winery in 2002 in Roa, with French winemaker Lionel Gourgue at the helm and the clear objective of making high-quality wines.
Alonso del Yerro is grown in a wide variety of soils located at an altitude of over 800m, all very calcareous, from the typical red clay of Ribera to sandy soils with gravels; hence the typicity and complexity of Alonso del Yerro.
A slow and gentle process is used to extract the best tannins from the 2012 grapes. Long macerations (between 25 and 29 days) and aging for about 12 months in French oak (with 25% new wood) create a very balanced, classic, and elegant Alonso del Yerro 2012.
During the first part of the year and until the end of June, there was abundant rainfall (585 liters), and the rest of the year was much drier. This allowed the soil's water reserves to be replenished after a particularly dry 2009, although it increased the risk of diseases in the spring.
Since they work without systemic products and use treatments as minimally as possible, they had to pay special attention and act with caution. Throughout the month of September, the temperature was magnificent, and it remained the same in the first half of October, ensuring a slow and complete ripening of the grapes.
From October 22 to 29. It was a late but homogeneous harvest. The grapes were harvested under ideal conditions, without haste, adhering to our parcel philosophy, achieving the desired ripeness, without any meteorological or health factors intervening.
Alonso del Yerro is ideal to accompany pasta with meat sauce, sheep's cheese, meat rice dishes, and roasted red meats.
It is recommended to serve at a temperature between 16 and 18ºC.
