The White Wine Marqués de Riscal Verdejo from Bodegas Marqués de Riscal, presents this white wine from the D.O. Rueda, made from 100% Verdejo grape varieties.
The winery has 220 hectares of vineyards with an average of 25 years, dedicated among others, to the planting of the native variety Verdejo, a versatile grape, with great character and personality, which is very well adapted to the extreme conditions of the area, allowing the production of fresh or barrel-fermented white wines.
Marqués de Riscal Verdejo is one of the greatest exponents of white wines from the D.O. Rueda. In its 2019 vintage this wine becomes part of the 100% organic wines of the winery, wines from sustainable agriculture and organic production. The winemaking with the minimum possible intervention manages to highlight the varietal purity and the character of the terroir of this area of the Douro.
Once alcoholic fermentation is complete, the wine remains in contact with the lees in stainless steel tanks for 1 to 2 months. The lees that settle to the bottom of the tank are stirred weekly with nitrogen (battonnage).
Optimal serving temperature: between 8 and 10ºC.
The history of Bodegas Marqués de Riscal is the story of an innovative company, pioneer and benchmark of a wine sector in continuous transformation.
The winery was founded in 1858 by Guillermo Hurtado de Amézaga. In 1862 its first wines were bottled, thus becoming the oldest bottled wines of Rioja.
A few years after its founding, the winery quickly began to win numerous awards, but one of the most important came in 1895, when Marqués de Riscal became the first non-French wine to win the Diploma of Honor at the Bordeaux Exhibition.
In 1972 Marqués de Riscal began production of the first white wines from Rueda and, in recent years, the winery has dared to incorporate two new appellations into the project, V.T. Castilla y León and D.O. Getariako Txakolina.
For those who want to travel through the history of the winery from its foundation to the present day with the possibility of enjoying Marqués de Riscal wines, in 2006 La Ciudad del Vino was inaugurated, which today has a hotel designed by the famous Canadian architect Frank O. Gehry.
