El Sueño de Amado Viñedo Singular is a red wine made by Bodegas y Viñedos Ilurce with 100% Garnacha grapes from our singular vineyard. This wine is aged in French oak barrels.

Do you know what a Singular Vineyard is? Let me explain briefly:

The figure of Singular Vineyard emerged in 2017 to protect those old vineyards in the DOCa Rioja and enhance the value of these viticultural treasures. Therefore: "Parcels with unique characteristics, old vineyards of limited yield and vigor that are harvested by hand. They are high-quality wines that must undergo a second qualitative tasting to be included in the category and must also contribute to valorize the terroir and recognize its diversity, increasing the prestige of the Denomination."

To carry this out, the Regulatory Council implemented a series of requirements both at the agronomic and production levels:

  • Agronomic:
    • Grapes from that single plot registered as Singular Vineyard.
    • Minimum vineyard age of 35 years. In this case, it is a plot grafted by my great-grandfather Amador in 1918, which is why it says "centenary Garnachas" on the label.
    • Manual harvest.
    • Maximum yield in the vineyard of 5000 kg/Ha, which is 23% less than the maximum yield authorized in the DOCa Rioja for a red vineyard.
    • Vigor controls (strength or growth capacity of the vineyard).
  • Enological:
    • Grape to must transformation yields of 65%.
  • The wine must pass two tastings before entering the market:
    • The first tasting is the one that all wines pass, the qualified one.
    • The second tasting is a blind tasting by a panel of tasters from the Regulatory Council, where it must score equal to or higher than 93 points.

History

On June 15, 1918, Amador (known as AMADO) and Julia, our grandparents, got married in Grávalos. After harvesting the grapes, they embarked on their honeymoon to Valencia, specifically to Requena, as they were already aware that oenology students were starting to be trained there, and they longed for this training for one of their future children.

As a souvenir, they brought a bundle of vine shoots of local varieties, bobal and a white variety, on the train ride back.

Upon their return from the trip, Grandfather Amado grafted the vineyard, planted in 1916, from which we can now enjoy this wine. Today, we can find in a corner of the vineyard the bobal and white strains, their honeymoon trip memory.

Vineyard

From a single plot, "La Casilla de Cabezorroyo," vineyard grafted in 1918 in the high area of the Yerga slopes, in the municipality of Alfaro; by our grandfather Amador Escudero Pérez. This vineyard is formed by old vines with twisted branches that have grown in strict dry conditions, with yields between 4000-5000 Kg/Ha.

Elaboration

The grapes are harvested manually, deposited in 300-kilo capacity crates that are immediately placed in a refrigerated container.

The harvest is chilled to ensure the grapes enter the tank between 4 and 6 ºC, a temperature that will be maintained for a few days, achieving a cold prefermentative maceration to obtain maximum color and aroma extraction.

The wine is then aged in new French oak barrels. This wine has been aged in barrels for twelve months.

We are facing a wine free of any treatment, which may present a slight sediment at the bottom of the bottle, a result of its natural evolution.
