The White Wine Liberso is a wine belonging to the Rueda Designation of Origin, in Castilla León, and made with the characteristic grape variety of the area, 100% Verdejo, which is one of the most important at present among Spanish white wines. Nothing less than 18 wines are needed to make Liberso Curioso. One is aged for 6 months on lees. The other 17 ferment in barrels of different origins, sizes and cooperages. It is the first wine of this winery, curious, different, the result of the challenge to discover the limits of such a versatile variety as the Verdejo grape. A different and premium wine, with which we are very proud to recommend in Made in Spain Gourmet. It has a 9-month aging in those barrels. The same happens in 40% of the rest of the wine, as it rests in stainless steel on its lees, also 9 months in barrels of French, American, and Hungarian oak. A great wine.
A Sideral verdejo
With this wine they toast to all those who boldly trace their own path without complexes. They are Explorers. Their destination lies in the unknown. It is a wine for those who seek to discover rather than reaffirm. If you have made it this far, then this is a wine for you.
The production of this wine from the Rueda Designation of Origin is limited to 12,000 bottles per year to guarantee very demanding quality parameters.
Winery: Own Vineyards, in Aging Wineries of Pozaldez. Pozaldez (Valladolid), D.O. Rueda Vintage: 2018 Alcohol Content: 13.5% Variety: 100% verdejo
Tasting Notes: In its tasting, it shows a brighter golden color than the 2016 vintage since, although it has more aging time, it has spent less time in the bottle. The movement preserves freshness very well, but it is already starting to become unctuous, elegant, and undoubtedly sensual.
The nose is of high intensity, very frank, with great clarity of the varietal aromas that predominate at first. When aired, the aging process and the contribution of its lees arrive. Not as well integrated as the previous vintage that has had more time in the bottle to harmonize, but it is already beginning to give excellent sensations for lovers of complex and elegant white wines. It gains in freshness and fruit compared to the 2018 vintage, but it falls slightly behind in complexity and presence of the bouquet.
The palate is smooth, fresh, with a lot of fruit, maintaining liveliness in the passage through the palate. Power, elegance, and silkiness where the lees and the barrel give it depth, but without losing the freshness of the varietal. The aftertaste combines fruit and spices, different from the previous vintage.
Serving Temperature: 6-8ºC
Production: In 32 hectares of vineyard of 100% Verdejo variety, quality grapes are selected to make this magnificent wine. Liberso is the first wine created in this winery, interesting and different, a product of discovering the limits that various values of this grape variety such as verdejo possess.
To achieve this result, 19 different wines were produced; wines that have gone through various processes, the first in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature and aged with their lees for 9 months to preserve their spontaneity. On the other hand, individually, 18 wines were fermented and aged for 9 months in French, American, and Hungarian oak barrels from 12 of the world's best coopers and in 3 different volumes of 225, 300, and 500 liters.
Pairing: at Made in Spain Gourmet we recommend it with blue fish and seafood, but also with rice dishes, soft or creamy cheeses, and all kinds of rice dishes. It would also be great as an aperitif. One of those full-bodied wines that you can even enjoy on its own, with a good book.
Liberso is the first wine from the Rueda DO characterized and marketed by vintage. Each wine is a faithful reflection of the peculiarities of its year marked by a common and unmistakable style.
The verdejo grape
The Verdejo grape has inhabited the Rueda Designation of Origin for more than ten centuries. Its character is determined by its aroma and flavor, with hints of low mountain grass, fruity notes, and excellent acidity. The extract, a factor of personality in great white wines, is noticeable for its volume and its characteristic bitter touch that projects a flash of originality in the mouth, accompanied by a great fruit expression. These are wines of great harmony, whose memory after passing through the mouth invites you to continue tasting.
Continental Climate
The Rueda DO is located between 700 and 870 meters above sea level, with flat but high lands, enduring cold and very long winters, short springs with late frosts, and hot and dry summers, only interrupted by untimely storms. This factor forces the vines to seek their water resources in the depths of the subsoil, more than in other
