Passionflower is a perennial climbing plant of the Passifloraceae family. The shape of its flowers is very peculiar, which is why it is called passion flower. The active part of the plant is the aerial parts, which contain flavonoids (including the heterosides scaphthoside and isoscaphthoside, vitexin, isovitexin, vicenin, lucecin, etc.) as well as traces of essential oil and phytosterols. The main active substance is vitexin.

Passionflower has traditionally been used as an anxiolytic, tranquilliser and spasmolytic. It helps to prolong sleep and inhibits aggression and anxiety.
