The Sonsierra of La Rioja is an area located on the southern side of the Sierra de Cantabria and Toloño, which protect it from the cold and humid winds of the Cantabrian Sea. Its weather conditions, with more rainfall in winter than during the rest of the year and the wind channelled through the Ebro valley, make it an ideal area for growing vines. Its broken orography, with very well-drained clay-limestone soils, is perfect for the Tempranillo variety
At Bodega Hacienda López de Haro the aim is to respect the traditional winemaking systems, so thewinemaking tanks (between 15,000 and 35,000 litres), have very wide mouths to imitate the traditional winemaking in open vats. This allows for more comfortable bazuqueos to better work the cap (the solid part of the grapes that during fermentation remains floating on top of the tank)
The winery has a fleet of around 5,000 barrels, of which three quarters are French oak and a quarter American oak. The French oak fits in with the style of wines made at Bodega Hacienda López de Haro as it respects the fruit and character of the varieties most commonly used in the López de Haro collection: Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano.
The Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano
Hacienda López de Haro Crianza is a round, friendly and expressive wine, product of its harmonious assemblage of Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano, and with a classic ageing on French and American oak barrels in equal parts. Smooth on the palate and balanced, this vintage will delight lovers of classic riojas, where fruit and ageing aromas coexist in harmony
